Hospitals battle over Hoke!

A large and polite crowd listened attentively as two hospitals presented their competing plans for serving patients in Hoke County. FirstHealth of the Carolinas, based in Moore County, emphasized their history in Hoke County and, at one point, suggested that Cape Fear Valley seemed relatively uninterested in Hoke until earlier this year when FirstHealth announced their plans for a new facility near the middle of the county. Cape Fear Valley, based in Cumberland County, countered that their own proposal, for construction adjacent to the Cumberland-Hoke boundary, involved a larger facility with more robust patient services. At one point, Cape Fear Valley suggested that FirstHealth may be primarily interested in building a new Hoke facility in order to refer more patients back to their hospital in Moore County.
